The Immersive Selection of the
Cannes Festival 2024
a major collaboration
The Cannes Film Festival 2024 marked a key milestone in the event’s history with the introduction of its first immersive competition. Selected by the director of the immersive section, Elie Levasseur, we were chosen to create an experience for visitors and meet the technical and artistic requirements of the producers and artists.
An immersive vision designed for the public
The Immersive Selection of the Cannes Film Festival presented 12 works in a 700 m² space at the Cineum, combining :
- Virtual reality
- Immersive projections and sound installations
Diversion worked with the organisers and artists to ensure that each work was presented in a way that was faithful to the vision of its creators, while meeting the technical and artistic expectations of the Festival.
Tailor-made scenography
Diversion took charge of the design and implementation of the scenography for several works.
This included :
- Bespoke furnishings: furniture specially designed to provide an optimal experience.
3D printing of scenographic elements - Lighting design and LED murals: Creation of visual ambiances adapted to artistic intentions.
- Integration of technical equipment, such as high-performance PCs and VR masks, to ensure smooth, unobtrusive operation.
Two major works benefited from a complete scenography, with immersive devices allowing up to 7 spectators to be immersed simultaneously.
Technical support to enhance the experience
Diversion also managed all the technical logistics, including :
- Management of multiplayer installations: development of technical control booths for real-time supervision of PCs or masks, as well as a remote control tool for virtual reality masks.
- Ongoing maintenance of a complex immersive projection installation.
- Equipment management, including computers, VR 25 Meta Quest masks and specific accessories.
A smooth experience
Diversion trained and accompanied the festival hosts throughout the 11 days of immersive competition. The team ensured that the reception was smooth, that the screenings ran smoothly and that any technical problems were quickly resolved to guarantee a unique immersive experience.
